Institute for Renewable Energy Short description of the position: The Institute for Renewable Energy at Eurac Research seeks a dynamic and experienced Group Leader for the Photovoltaic Energy Systems Group. This leadership role is central to advancing research and development in the field of sustainable, reliable and bankable solar photovoltaic modules and systems and the integration in infrastructure and grids. The Group Leader will oversee and drive high-impact projects, manage a multidisciplinary team, an accredited testing laboratory and lead initiatives that bridge cutting-edge research with practical, scalable solutions related to photovoltaic applications.
The ideal candidate will bring expertise in photovoltaic technologies, operational strategy, and a track record of leading R&D projects from concept to implementation, working closely with industry partners and research collaborators.
Tasks: Group Leadership: In close collaboration with the present 4 Team Leaders, manage, mentor, and inspire a team of around 30 professionals, fostering an environment of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.Financial Group Management: Coordinate budget elaboration for the whole research group, quarterly re-planning activities, sensible management of cost & income in a research group mostly based on third party fundingStrategic Vision: Develop a topic driven strategic vision and develop and implement strategies to convert research findings into practical applications.Research Excellence: Promote and uphold research excellence by driving innovative approaches, ensuring rigorous methodologies, and contributing to high-quality publications and presentations that elevate the impact of the group's work in the global scientific community.Project Oversight: Lead high-priority projects, ensuring that each meets Eurac Research's quality standards, budget constraints, and project timelines.Stakeholder Engagement: In close collaboration with Team Leaders, act as the liaison with external stakeholders, including corporate clients, academic partners, and cross-functional teams, promoting knowledge transfer and aligning projects with research, market and community needs.Operational Excellence: Identify and implement improvements in project workflows, resource allocation, and data management, enhancing overall efficiency and project outcomes.Risk and Quality Management: Proactively manage risks associated with project operations and ensure that all deliverables meet regulatory, research and industry standards.Laboratory: Oversee and further develop the PV laboratory and the dedicated team including accredited module testing, accelerated aging, outdoor testing, PV integration in facades and roofs, prototype module production lab.Requirements: Education:PhD or equivalent experience in Renewable Energy, Engineering, or a related field.Experience:10+ years in research, development and innovation, project management, and 5+ group leadership within renewable energy, with a focus on photovoltaics or related technology areas. In depth knowledge of EU research and innovation funding schemes. Experience in cooperation with research, industry and public institutions.Skills:Demonstrated ability to lead complex research initiatives, strong strategic and analytical skills, and an ability to translate technical innovations into market-ready solutions. High communication skills with group collaborators, colleagues, partners and clientsDomain Expertise:Deep technical knowledge of photovoltaic systems and renewable energyLanguages:Excellent knowledge of English.
