Job Title: Geotechnical Junior Engineer - Offshore RINA is currently recruiting for a Geotechnical Junior Engineer - Offshore to join its office in Rozzano, Genoa, or Rome, Italy, within the Energy Engineering Solutions Division.
Mission This role offers an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate in offshore geotechnical engineering/marine geology. The Junior Offshore Geotechnical Engineer will participate in offshore geotechnical investigations from the very initial phase until the final reporting. The ideal candidate will join the geotechnical team onboard and will continue following the project during the onshore phase of geotechnical laboratory and reporting. The candidate will work closely with senior engineers and project managers to support the final site characterization in terms of geological and geotechnical aspects.
Key Accountabilities Site Investigation: Assist in planning and executing geotechnical site investigations at sea under the guidance of senior engineers. Participate in field surveys and inspections to assess seabed geology, sediment characteristics, and geological hazards. Support in collecting sediment samples and seabed data for analysis of engineering properties and soil stability. Data Analysis: Aid in the analysis of geotechnical data collected during offshore shipboard investigations to characterize seabed conditions and geological formations. Assist in interpreting geophysical survey data, including bathymetric surveys and sub-bottom profiling, to identify geological features and hazards. Liaise with the geotechnical laboratory: preparation of the tests' schedule, follow-up of the laboratory progress, quality & technical check of the certificates. Learn to use geotechnical software and modeling techniques to analyze site data and predict soil behavior. Laboratory and Reporting: Assist in preparing geotechnical site investigation reports, documenting site conditions, data analysis, and recommendations. Liaise with the geotechnical laboratory: preparation of the tests' schedule, follow-up of the laboratory progress, quality & technical check of the certificates. Collaborate with senior engineers to communicate findings and recommendations to final clients. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with senior engineers and project teams to integrate geotechnical considerations into projects and operations. Assist in liaising with project managers, clients, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. Education Master's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Geology.
Qualifications Proficiency in geotechnical software tools such as PLAXIS, FLAC, GRLWEAP, or equivalent. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate technical concepts clearly. Adaptability and willingness to learn new geotechnical analysis methods and techniques. Prior internship or co-op experience in geotechnical engineering or offshore energy industry is a plus. Knowledge of offshore safety regulations and standards is desirable.
