Setting and ReportingThe United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide.
This position is located in the Analytics Location Intelligence Unit (ALIU) of the Client Solutions Delivery Section (CSDS), within the Service for Geospatial Information and Telecommunications Technology (SGITT) at the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi.
The Geospatial Information Assistant will work under the supervision of the Chief ALIU or other designated officer.ResponsibilitiesAssists with geospatial data acquisition, including satellite image acquisitions for image analysis in response to information requests.Assists in maintaining geospatial databases, with data collection efforts, and creates statistics.Assists with the identification of patterns and trends in geospatial data using geospatial analysis techniques.Assists with the preparation of geospatial data sets and responds to queries; and maintains/updates geospatial web services.Assists with data collection and analysis, preparing presentations of outputs and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.Performs other duties as assigned.CompetenciesProfessionalism: Knowledge of information security policies, procedures, and practices and demonstrated sound judgment in applying technical expertise.
Proven experience in geospatial matters, including mapping, cartography, and online mapping visualization techniques.
Ability to perform analysis, modelling and interpretation of data in support of decision-making.

Training in geospatial information and image processing programmes is desirable.
Training in GIS Systems Administration is desirable.Work ExperienceAt least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in geospatial information, analysis, mapping data visualization, information management or related area is required.
The minimum year of relevant experience is reduced to three (3) for candidates with a first-level university degree or higher.
Experience in raster data analytics or related areas is required.
Experience with ArcGIS Pro is required.
One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Experience with image processing software, e.g.
Erdas Imagine, ENVI, SNAP, or similar is desirable.
Experience of Python to support geospatial analysis is desirable.
Experience of Jupyter or ArcGIS Notebook development for geospatial analytics is desirable.
Experience in supporting international organizations in the production of information products is desirable.LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.AssessmentEvaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.Special NoticeRecruitment for this position is done on local basis.
This position is open for recruitment for an initial period of one year with possibility of extension, subject to availability of funds.
