About the Opportunity The General Manager for N26 Italy will lead or oversee the strategic direction, operations, regulatory and growth initiatives in the Italian market.
This role involves overseeing all aspects of the business, from regulatory compliance and financial performance to marketing and customer engagement.
The General Manager will report directly to the VP European markets Key Responsibilities: Represent N26 legally and serve as the primary spokesperson for N26 in Italy, building the brand and reputation by promoting its mission, values, and goals to external audiences (customers, media, business partners, and regulatory authorities).
Develop and implement a cross-functional country strategy in alignment with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT).
Act as the Leader for the Italian Bank branch, ensuring full compliance with all regulatory requirements, including legal liability and Managing Director (MD) decision rights.
Advise the ELT and global functional leaders on strategies to increase total net contribution per market.
Lead the Local Market team in collaboration with global divisions.
Champion the local customer, ensuring all decisions are properly localised, and well-coordinated across local and central functions.
Contribute to, review, and agree on country PL forecasts, ensuring the achievement of local PL targets through cross-functional efforts.
Define the target organisation for the Italian Bank branch, promoting compliance excellence by sponsoring local compliance projects.
Generate proactive market insights (e.g., on competitors) and serve as the point of contact for all local market topics.
Identify and lead major local business development and collaboration opportunities.
Motivate and lead cross-functional country teams, providing input on the recruitment and performance of country employees.
Serve as the site lead and legal representative for all local N26 entities, ensuring an excellent employee experience for local staff What you need to be successful: Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in a similar role covering strategic planning, business development, and market expansion for or in an international company preferably in a bank or other financial institution, with 5+ years in a leadership capacity .
Deep understanding of the Italian and European consumer tech and/or retail banking market.
Demonstrated experience in FinTech, consumer platforms, digital environments or financial services - even better, all of the above.
Track record of building and growing a business as well as delivering high impact projects successfully.
A solid understanding of the business case behind retail banking as well as the competitive landscape in Italy and South Eastern Europe - you know why N26 is better than its competitors and can position us against them.
A strong local network, easily opening doors for N26.
You have completed a Masters degree in either Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
Skills: Excellent commercial and analytical skills, you can easily evaluate data and use this as a powerful force in decision making.
Outstanding analytical skills: data-driven decision making, with excellent Excel and communication skills to effectively communicate complex information.
Entrepreneurial spirit with strong customer, product and business-oriented thinking.
A hands-on mentality, with a natural aptitude to manage competing priorities.
You are a dynamic senior spokesperson with experience in public speaking and public relations (100% fluency of the Spanish language required).
Proven track record of effectively engaging and collaborating with key stakeholders including C-level and the ability to effectively influence cross-functional leaders and teams.
