Organizational Setting
The Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI) is responsible for all programmes and activities related to fisheries and aquaculture and their sustainable development, with particular emphasis on human well-being, food security, and poverty reduction.
The post is located at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy, in the Fisheries and Aquaculture Division's (NFI) Fishery Information and Knowledge Management Team (NFISI).
Reporting Lines
The Fishery Officer (Information/Webmaster) reports to the Senior Fishery Officer/Team Leader, NFISI.
Technical Focus
Technical editing/webmaster for web-based information dissemination; information metadata; subject, taxonomic and geographic indexing; international collaborative information systems; fisheries, aquaculture and aquatic science and policy information.
Key Functions
Collects and analyses relevant technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional and technology related information, data and/or statistics to support the delivery of programme projects as well as products and services. Undertakes analysis, provides technical input for plans and reports and edits/revises technical/scientific documents. Participates in the development of improved work methods, tools and systems. Updates databases and web pages. Participates in multidisciplinary project/work teams. Collaborates in the development of training tools and materials and the organization of workshops/seminars, etc. Participates in the organization, conduct and follow-up of meetings, consultations and conferences. CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Advanced university degree in biology, aquatic and/or fishery sciences, library-information sciences, or related field. Three years of relevant experience in reviewing and editing fisheries and aquaculture documentation and scientific web-based information. Working knowledge (full proficiency - level C) of English and intermediate knowledge (intermediate proficiency - level B) of another FAO official language. CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
