Organizational Setting
The Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI) is one of FAO's core technical divisions under the Natural Resources and Sustainable Production Stream at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. The Division collaborates with Members and partners to promote the responsible and sustainable management of aquatic food systems, aiming for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life.
Reporting Lines
The Fishery Officer (Fisheries Assessment and Management Advice) reports to the Senior Fishery Resources Officer, under the overall supervision of the Senior Fishery Resources Officer/Team Leader, Assessment and Management Team, NFI.
Technical Focus
The Fishery Officer will work as part of a multidisciplinary team dealing with integrated fisheries management, assessment and advice in the context of the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries (EAF).
Key Results
Research, technical analysis and project-related services to support the delivery of programme projects, products and services.
Key Functions
Researches, analyses and provides access to fisheries and aquaculture technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional and technology-related data. Produces a variety of technical data, statistics, information and reports. Provides technical, statistical, and/or analytical services on various studies, projects and initiatives. Participates in the development of improved/updated technical tools and methodologies. Collaborates in capacity development activities within Members. Promotes knowledge sharing and best practices at international meetings. Supports resource mobilization activities. Specific Functions
Contributes to the development of approaches for integrated evidence-based assessment and management advice. Provides technical and scientific support for fisheries assessments and management advice. Supports the development and delivery of the FAO Training Programme on Fisheries Data. Contributes to the monitoring and reporting on the State of World Fisheries. Participates actively in efforts to mobilize extra-budgetary resources. CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Advanced university degree in relevant fields. Five years of relevant experience in quantitative assessment of fisheries. Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language. Technical/Functional Skills
Work experience in more than one location or area of work. Experience in the quantitative and qualitative analysis of fisheries data. Experience in the assessment and production of management advice for fisheries. Experience in the use of programming languages and GIS. GENERAL INFORMATION
