Organizational Setting
The Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI) is responsible for the economic, social, institutional, governance and policy aspects of FAO's activities related to fisheries and aquaculture and their development, with particular emphasis on human well-being, food security and poverty reduction.
Reporting Lines
The Fishery Officer (Aquaculture) reports to the Senior Aquaculture Officer/NFIAP Team Leader in the Sustainable Aquaculture area under the overall supervision of the Deputy Director, NFI.
Technical Focus
Support to the development of sustainable, efficient and well-governed aquaculture for a more inclusive, resilient and healthy aquatic food system.
Key Results
Research, technical analysis and project related services to support the delivery of programme projects, products and services.
Key Functions
• Researches, analyses and provides access to fisheries and aquaculture technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional and technology related data.
• Produces a variety of technical data, statistics, information and reports.
• Provides technical, statistical, and/or analytical services on various studies, projects and initiatives.
• Participates in multidisciplinary teams and/or leads working groups/teams.
Specific Functions
• Provides organizational and technical support to relevant global and regional processes.
• Supports the work of FAO and partners in the mainstreaming and implementation of the guidelines for sustainable aquaculture.
Minimum Requirements
• Advanced university degree in agriculture, biology, animal science and nutrition, fisheries and aquaculture or related discipline.
• Five years of relevant experience in aquaculture development, processing, including experience in developing countries.
• Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of another FAO official language.
Technical/Functional Skills
• Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions.
• Extent and relevance of experience in providing scientific support and advice to research and/or development projects.
