The United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) is a network of strategically located hubs established to support humanitarian organizations and the broader international community in responding to emergencies and crises. UNHRD provides essential services such as storage, easy access to critical supplies, and technical assistance. The position holder will work under the supervision of the Head of Finance.
THE ROLE To coordinate the effective provision of financial services across the entire UNHRD network, maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance in all financial activities.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Provide procedural and technical support within the areas of finance and budget, ensuring compliance with WFP financial policies, rules, and regulations, specifically tailored to the needs of the UNHRD network.Support with the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures for the UNHRD network. Assist in the setup and implementation of proper accounting procedures, systems, and cash controls.Be responsible for all aspects of accounts receivable within the UNHRD network, including reconciliation of payments and pre-payments, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in financial transactions.Monitor cash position and the centralized registry system to process all payments to internal staff and invoices to external suppliers within the UNHRD network in a timely manner and in accordance with WFP standards.Contribute to the preparation, implementation, and monitoring of budgets for UNHRD projects. Monitor expenditure and budget forecasts to ensure relevant future funding requirements are met.Support the Head of Finance to coordinate with other teams within the UNHRD network to ensure that all financial and administrative services are performed efficiently and align with the network's needs.Monitor account balances and process financial transactions accurately and timely within the UNHRD network and take any corrective action as/when needed.Compile data from the WFP database and systems to assist in generating and analyzing financial reports monthly for the UNHRD network.Act as Officer-In-Charge in the absence of Head of Finance, supporting the Head of Finance and ensuring seamless continuity of finance operations within the UNHRD network.QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Education: Completion of secondary school education.A post-secondary certificate in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is desirable.Experience: Minimum 6 years' professional experience in finance and/or accounting or in a related field.Experience in an international organization or network is an asset.Language: Proficiency in Italian and in English (Level C) is required. Proficiency in another UN language is an asset.SPECIFIC ROLE REQUIREMENTS Essential Expertise in managing accounts receivable, including payment and pre-payment reconciliation.Competence in preparing, implementing, and monitoring project budgets.Organizational skills and attention to details.Excellent data analysis and reporting skills.Desirable Knowledge of supply chain operations in emergency is an advantage.Certification in International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) is desirable.Experience working with Software as a Service (SaaS) platforms such as SAP Finance software is an advantage.TERMS AND CONDITIONS WFP offers a competitive compensation package which will be determined by the contract type and selected candidate's qualifications and experience. Salary scale: UN - Salary Scale Applicants must be: Italian Residents holding a valid passport and/or identity card, and;Reside within commuting distance (100-kilometer radius or distance that can be covered within 1.5 hours by car or public transport under average conditions of traffic, weather, and roads) to the office location at the duty station World Food Programme, UNHRD Brindisi, Ex SS 16 Km 906.9, 72100 Brindisi, Italy). If not residing within commuting distance at the time of application, candidates must be willing to relocate to Brindisi, Italy, at their own cost before taking up the assignment. WFP shall not be responsible for any costs associated with such relocation nor shall WFP assist or otherwise be involved in obtaining residency status or legal work permits. Preference will be given to candidates who reside within commuting distance of Brindisi, Italy.Please note that applications should be sent in English.
