Fraunhofer Italia with headquarters in Bolzano (Italy) is hiring a new member for its research group "Bioeconomy & Sustainability".
This group focuses on the development of projects and initiatives on how to best integrate and promote sustainability in industrial processes, business strategies and territorial development (both practical and in terms of governance).
The key research areas for the group regard circular economy, sustainability and bioeconomy applied to projects at micro-, meso-, and macro-level in order to incorporate the specific requirements, level of detail and features found at each scope of action.

Requirements: You have a M.Sc.
degree in environmental engineering/chemical engineering/industrial engineering, environmental sciences, or come from another relevant scientific background.
You work independently, systematically and have a high degree of commitment, creativity and team spirit.
You have work experience (> 1 year) in environmental engineering practices, environmental management, circular economy, sustainability, and/or risk prevention and management.
You have basic programming experience.
You have basic knowledge of relevant standards in the field of sustainability (e.g.
Agenda 2030, SDG, European Green Deal and Climate Action Plan, Corporate Social Responsibility, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 14040 and ISO 14044, ISO 14064 and ISO 14067, etc.).
You speak either Italian or German and have basic proficiency in English.
Availability to move to Bolzano/Bozen.
Your job Your main activity will involve the development and the design of applied research projects that aim at integrating and promoting sustainability practices at different levels.
On the one hand, the emphasis will be on the development of application-oriented concepts and their implementation in cooperation with clients and, on the other hand, on further expanding the institute's scientific know-how in these areas.
This means being able to efficiently adapt the same concept to industrial applications bearing in mind the specific needs of a company/industrial setting and to more scientific or broader applications like publicly funded research projects and territorial strategies in instances such as: Performing and improving LCA models as well as developing and maintaining tools to support eco-design.
Collaborating and coordinating specific studies with external clients and partners.
Monitoring standards, benchmarking against current best practices and driving continuous improvement.
Performing product footprint, data inputs collection and analysis.
Development of performance indicators through reporting.
Nice to haves: Proven experience in quantifying sustainability, including experience in carrying out LCA according to international standards using a major commercial LCA software.
Project management knowledge and experience in an international environment.
Technical sustainability knowledge in quantifying environmental sustainability impacts.
Experience in deploying, using/maintaining associated tools.
Experience or familiarity with manufacturing operations and supply networks; customer-facing experience is a plus.
As part of an interdisciplinary team, you will work on various research projects at the interface between science and practice, for both public and private clients.
