Fraunhofer Italia, with headquarters in Bolzano (Italy), is looking for a new member for its research group "Bioeconomy & Sustainability".
This group focuses on the development of projects and initiatives on how to best integrate and promote sustainability in industrial processes, business strategies, and territorial development (both practical and in terms of governance).

Requirements: You have a M.Sc.
degree in computer engineering/data science/data engineering/bioinformatics or come from another relevant scientific background interested in sustainability.
You work independently, systematically, and have a high degree of commitment, creativity, and team spirit.
You have work experience (> 1 year) in applying digital technologies to multidisciplinary research fields.
You have experience in IT, processing data and information including modeling simulation.
You have basic programming experience (e.g.
Python) and familiarity with relevant software tools and libraries.
You have a strong drive for applied and scalable research with a focus on sustainability.
You speak either Italian or German and have proficiency in English.
Your job: Your main activity will involve the development and design of applied research projects that aim at integrating and promoting sustainability practices at different levels.
On the one hand, the emphasis will be on the development of application-oriented concepts and their implementation in cooperation with clients, and on the other hand, on further expanding the institute's scientific know-how in these areas.
Nice to haves: Performing process mapping, data inputs collection, and analysis.
Experience in deploying, using/maintaining associated digital tools.
Proven experience in quantifying sustainability impacts, understanding of bioeconomy concepts, sustainable resource management, and environmental impact assessment.
Familiarity with current trends, policies, and best practices in bioeconomy and sustainability.
Experience or familiarity with manufacturing processes and supply networks; customer-facing experience is a plus.
This means being able to efficiently adapt the same concept to industrial applications, bearing in mind the specific needs of a company/industrial setting and to more scientific or broader applications like publicly funded research projects and territorial strategies.
As part of an interdisciplinary team, you will work on various research projects at the interface between science and practice, for both public and private clients.
