Setting and Reporting: The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies Services and Training to all peacekeeping and special political missions around the world as well as to other UN Offices, Agencies Funds and Programs.
This Internship is located in the Innovation and Infrastructure Support Unit of the Supply Chain Service at the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy.
The Intern will report to the Chief, Innovation and Infrastructure Support Unit, but may be required to work with different teams such as the Technical Review, Standardization and Design and the Solution Factory Team.
The internship is for a minimum period of three months with an opportunity for extension up to six months, depending on the needs of the Unit and availability of the candidate, with substantial preference being given to candidates who are able to commit to the maximum six-month period.
One (1) post is available.
The internship is unpaid and full-time.Responsibilities:Gather and analyse data from various databases and sources.Perform statistical and/or mathematical programming, develop reports and visual representations.Develop and/or maintain databases, and provide consultation, technical assistance, in determining the appropriate statistical methodology to meet the needs and objectives.Use various statistical and mathematical software packages to summarize and interpret statistical results.Conduct research on new improved technologies and available solutions in the field of engineering (e.g.
rapidly deployable and sustainable solutions suitable for camps installations), presenting the final results in reports/presentations.Assist in drafting and preparing official technical documents (Scope of Works, Technical Specifications, Bill of Quantities, cost estimates, etc.)
for standardized engineering projects or mission-specific projects.Assist in preparing technical drawings and/or updating existing drawings.Compile statistics about technical clearance cases.Assist in preparing presentations.Perform any other duty/special project as may be required.Provide other assistance as needed.Qualifications/special Skills:The applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
The field of studies must be closely related to the type of Internship you are applying for: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Sustainability Engineering, Water Wastewater Engineering or similar.
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. Programme.
Be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and any of the following: ArcMap and ArcGIS software, Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit, Adobe Photoshop.
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Ability to think both creatively and analytically.Languages:English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
For this Internship, fluency in oral and written English is required.
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.Additional Information:Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
