The present demand drives the need for a resource able to carry out analytical simulation assessments on both powered lift and helicopter platforms, in order to support product development and certification tasks. The Flight Mechanics activities include aeromechanics and performance modelling, mission evaluation, capability assessment, rotorcraft sizing, flight data analysis, and design data definition.
We're looking for a capable Flight Physics Engineer who combines technical knowledge and experience with a demonstrated ability to get the right things done quickly and effectively. The ideal candidate will be attentive and able to adopt different communication approaches as required by different Company contexts in addition to proven technical knowledge and skills.
The operating scenario of the Flight Mechanics Dept. demands that the successful candidate is well-motivated and very flexible in terms of work content, capable of operating like a Flight Mechanics Chief Project, able to finalize the design, support the development of our products, and the flight test campaigns. The ideal candidate should have proactive and concrete collaboration skills, be competent in understanding the needs of all internal/external customers, manage the activity plan, and budget needs.
The resource will report to the Flight Mechanics discipline manager and will be coordinated for the activities by the discipline manager and Technical Leaders.
The resource will:
Study and understand the flight mechanics aspects of conventional and non-conventional rotorcraft configurations.
Develop performance and flight dynamics models.
Define the rotorcraft performance capability and perform flight dynamics simulations, comparing these with existing experimental data and produce related documentation.
Analyse and document experimental and/or analytical data.
Write and test algorithms for implementation in the simulation codes. Test and validate the implemented models/algorithms.
Coordinate with the Chief Project to ensure inputs, outputs, priorities, and deliverables are coherent with project plans, assumptions, and objectives.
Work with the different program(s), particularly regarding flight mechanics aspects, project specifications, and certification basis.
Familiarize and become proficient with the design requirements and constraints for conventional rotorcrafts (manned and unmanned) and new architecture.
Familiarize and become proficient with the development of relevant analytical tools.
Support flight mechanics modelling integration in the Engineering Flight Simulator to support design, certification activities, and fleet continuous airworthiness.
Provide required support to flight testing; analyse and document experimental data regarding flight mechanics.
Plan, execute, analyse, and document flight mechanics offline and piloted simulations.
Telemetry support for Engineering Flight Simulator simulation camping with Pilot in The Loop.
Coordinate with other project functions (aeromechanics disciplines, other engineering technical areas, flight test engineering, experimental pilots, etc.) for project task execution.
Coordinate with the Flight Mechanics line manager and technical leaders for flight mechanics methodology aspects.
Perform and document flight mechanics analyses.
Required technical skills/knowledge:
Master's Degree in a technical subject (preferred: Aerospace/Aeronautical/Automation engineering).
Knowledge/experience in aeromechanics subjects (preferred: rotorcraft/aircraft flight mechanics and performance).
Strong understanding of basic flight physics and rotorcraft background.
At least 3-5 years of experience in flight mechanics mathematical modelling and simulations.
Knowledge and experience working with aircraft type certification standards (civil and military).
Knowledge in stability and control analysis to evaluate and size helicopters to meet CS-29/27 and ADS33E requirements.
Knowledge of significant military rotorcraft (attack, defence, troop transport).
Strong understanding of weapons elevations assessment.
Preparation and optimization of design development, certification, and qualification flight test plans.
Linear and non-linear helicopter response analysis for stability and handling quality assessments.
Model validation with flight test data.
Knowledge in rotor blades rigid movements, its modelling key points, and impact on operating capability.
Strong understanding of linear algebra to handle big data problems.
Strong experience in massive data analysis.
Knowledge of analytical tools (Matlab, AICAM, Flightlab or similar).
Required soft skills:
Team working and learning attitude.
Results orientation, proactivity, flexibility.
Problem-solving attitude.
Lean and straightforward approach to complex problem solving.
The ability to train young resources.
Analytical mind.
Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization, identify solutions in the presence of conflict and ambiguity.
The ability to communicate complex methodologies and procedures to other colleagues.
