Description
The Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the company's environmental, health, and safety programs. The EH&S Specialist ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as industry standards and best practices. The EH&S Specialist also provides training, guidance, and support to employees and managers on EH&S matters.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
Keep up to date with new and revised regulations
Interpret these regulations as they apply to the site operations
Develop policies, procedures and work instructions as required
Conduct training on the proper use of policies and procedures
Ensure regular assessment of the performance and use of policies and procedures
Coordinate or perform a variety of EHS activities to maintain compliance with various regional and state regulatory authorities (INAIL, ASL)
Maintain relations with the competent authorities and certification bodies
Investigate and respond to incidents, accidents, and complaints involving EH&S issues
Implement corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence and ensure compliance
Conduct safety observations on a regular basis.
Advise and coach leadership/employees on various EHS topics
Conduct EHS training for new employees and current employees
Document and maintain training records
Understand, implement, report, and monitor on EHS measures and metrics
Establish and maintain regulatory compliance metrics
Ability to research and write effective EHS procedures and policies
Maintain constructive relationship with internal and external customers
Implement all the EHS Franklin global requests: Hazard ID declaration, Gemba Walk, etc.
Participate in EHS Franklin meeting and presenting the safety records of the plants
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities
This position reports to the site Managing Director, dotted line to Plant Manager
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Education, Experience & Abilities
Bachelor's degree in safety and or environmental engineering or a related field (required)
Minimum of 5 years of experience in EH&S management or specialist role, mechanical industry
Candidates trained to the position of RSPP as stipulated in the 2016 State-Regions Agreement
Certification in ISO (14001), or other relevant EH&S standards
Knowledge of federal, state, and local EH&S regulations and requirements
Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate EH&S programs and policies
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good Knowledge of written and spoken English
