Many need care and protection from a life of suffering and neglect, whilst others have a vital role to play in human survival and happiness - they are at the heart of everything we do here at Il Rifugio degli Asinelli.
Donkey Welfare Advisers are professionals in the field of donkey and mule welfare.
They play a key front line role in the work of The Donkey Sanctuary: responding to donkeys in need, supporting donkeys in the community, growing and managing a high quality rehoming scheme, and acting as an ambassador for the charity at all times.
We are now looking for a dynamic and resourceful professional with a proven track record of community based animal welfare work to join our team.
Within this multi-functional and rewarding role, your principal duties and responsibilities will include - Taking appropriate action when required to prevent donkeys and mules suffering; anticipating and taking preventative steps to avoid cruelty, distress or poor treatment by educating, supporting and informing a number of audiences in the care and welfare of donkeys and mules.
- Working effectively using excellent communication skills in a variety of mediums, with groups from all social, racial and cultural backgrounds to inform and share best practice to raise standards to improve the care and welfare of donkeys and mules.
- Ensuring that objective evidence is gathered in a professional and effective manner to underpin action, providing sound evidence both verbally and in writing, producing witness statements and attending court to give evidence when required.
- Increase the number of guardians homes by considering creative opportunities and engaging with the public to promote the benefits of the rehoming scheme to both donkeys, mules and people
- Providing expert information, support and education to guardian homes to support donkeys and mules in homes and making referrals to other expert colleagues when
- Work collaboratively to develop positive and co-operative relationships to raise the profile of animal welfare issues and become the point of contact for donkey and mule welfare issues in Italy.
- Acting as an effective team member within the charity, within region and across Europe, making use of local resources, including holding bases and EAA centres; in addition, identifying locations for suitable holding bases within region which may be used for short term accommodation for donkeys in need.
- Delivering high quality, informative and impactful training as required to a number of audiences including guardian homes, members of the public and others in a style suitable to the audience and using the resources made available.
Based at our centre in Sala Biellese, deep in the green woodland of the Serra hills in North Piedmont - this is a part-time, permanent contract starting as soon as possible, working 20 hours a week.
The working pattern for this role will combine onsite and home working and will be agreed between the Line Manager and post-holder.
There may be occasions when the post holder is requested to work at another location considered reasonable by the Charity.
