The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the senior Dietitian in the installation's Health Promotion unit of the Medical Group.
Supports the commander by developing, coordinating, and managing installation nutrition activities, and cultivating a fit and ready force that is resilient, productive, effective, and healthy.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED: Must be able to lift 40 pounds and carry 40 pounds for 100 yards.
Physical is required.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
A pre-employment physical is a condition of employment.
Employee may be required to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, austere environments and rough terrain.
Work involves moderate risks or discomforts and requires safety precautions and wearing and use of personal protective equipment typical of a human performance facility setting.
This is a drug testing designated position.
The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Testing Program.
Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
Incumbent of this position is subject to the possibility of a random drug test.
Area of consideration limited to local commuting area of Aviano AB, Italy.
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions, GS 0630 series + IOR (Individual Occupational Requirements).
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science.
The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation.
Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists.
Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
NOTE: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems.
Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of professional principles, practices, and procedures of the science of dietetics required to plan and perform a wide range of activities relating to the administration of a dietetic program/service; overseeing, directing, and/or providing dietetic education, training, and counseling ; knowledge of human behavior, motivational strategies, and counseling techniques to facilitate effective promotion of weight gain prevention, weight loss, and weight loss maintenance; adoption of healthy lifestyles; and disease prevention to groups and individuals with varying health status and at varying degrees of readiness to change; knowledge of planning, implementation, and evaluation techniques as they apply to nutrition programming and education to provide nutrition services to individuals, families, and community groups; to evaluate referrals; and deliver medical nutrition therapy.
OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position.

OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible.
One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level.
TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1.
Professional knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of the science of dietetics to plan and perform a wide range of difficult and complex activities related to directing a dietetic program/service for an installation where assignments involve administering dietetic education, training, and counseling for military active duty and retired members, family members, and DoD beneficiaries.

Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation of the patient's condition including disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, follow-up care, and treatment goals and plans in accordance with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) Nutrition Care Process (e.g., assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring, and evaluation).

Knowledge of best practices in the dietetics profession and in scientific literature, including knowledge of research methods, study design, data collection, interpretation of findings, and translation of results into practice; including health education principles, social marketing, and strategic planning processes to promote a community health education program.
4.
Knowledge of behavior change theories, behavior modification, motivational interviewing to promote adoption of healthy lifestyle behaviors in the treatment of complex cases in a clinical or community setting.
5.
Knowledge of a wide range of diseases, prognosis, medication, treatment methods, terminology, and complex areas of nutrition management to plan and apply nutrition therapy for patients with multiple co-morbidities.
6.
Ability to analyze complex problems; comprehend, interrelate, and evaluate facts; distinguish between cause and effect; develop solutions in a systematic manner; set appropriate goals for the installation program; and help facilitate client goal-setting.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
