Job Description - Data Manager – Genomic Science Research Unit & Research Organization Directorate (2400002H) Data Manager – Genomic Science Research Unit & Research Organization Directorate - ( 2400002H ) Commitment & contract: collaboration contract, 18 months Location: Genoa and Milan , Italy WHO WE ARE At IIT we work enthusiastically to develop human-centered Science and Technology to tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges of our times and transfer these technologies to the production system and society.
Our Genova headquarter is strictly inter-connected with our 11 centers around Italy and two outer-stations based in the US with a strongly interdisciplinary orientation.
IIT is one of the partners of the Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI) project, whose main goal is to enable access to genomic and related phenotypic and clinical data across Europe, by establishing a federated, sustainable, and secure infrastructure to share the data.
Moreover, i n line with its Strategic Plan 2024-2029 , IIT has been launching a new Research Data Management (RDM) program , to enable data-driven science based on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) .
T o guarantee that genomic research data are professionally and responsibly managed at all stages of the research cycle, data management competences will be developed and integrated in the workforce , to collaborate with scientists , IT engineers, and legal data experts to ensure the quality, integrity, and reusability of data and metadata in compliance with the applicable law.
YOUR TEAM We are looking for a Data Manager to work in close collaboration with researchers in the field of genomics , within the Genomic Science Research Unit in the context of the GDI European project .
The Da ta S teward / Data Manager will be integrated in a newly established Research Data Management & D ata S tewardship team under the Research Organization Directorate .
As a professional fi gure that bridges data management and research , you will enter a truly interdisciplinary team of people, where data specialists , IT managers , legal experts, and scientists collaborate to improve the way research data are managed and shared for better reproducibility and efficiency .
YOUR JOB T his job will provide you with a unique opportunity to play a role in the design , development, and application of innovative data management methods and tools in the genomics domain in line with the Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) principles .
In this role, you will : Contribute to design and implementation of data infrastructures and procedures for genomic data management at IIT : collaborate with stakeholders (scientists, IT managers , legal experts, etc.)
to identify international best practices for RDM in the genomics domain ; establish protocols for genomic data organization, storage, and transfer from/to the Center of Genomic Science (CGS-Milan) and other IIT centers.
Contribute to the development of the Italian Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI) in collaboration with other data professionals and researcher s in the GDI consortium.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS Have a master degree in a related field, in particular computer science, engineering, bioinformatics, genomics, and physics, Understand genomic / bioinformatics research processes, Have interest in learning principles of Research Data Management , FAIR data , and Open Science, Have understanding and/or knowledge of system integration , including maintenance and running of scripts for automation of big data storage and transfer in collaboration with IT system engineers , Have e xcellent organizational skills , Enjoy working collaboratively, also with a variety of people from different fields , Have good to excellent command of English.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS Have a PhD degree and/or previous research experience, Have interest in learning more about data governance, data ( infra ) structures, and system maintenance, Have basic programming skills (e.g., shell scripting) , Have experience of participation to challenging and international projects , Have demonstrated experience in genomics / bioinformatics research, Like to work independently and have a pro-active attitude .
COMPENSATION PACKAGE Possibility to access ad-hoc trainings in RDM and data stewardship Competitive salary package for international standards Wide range of staff discounts Candidates from abroad or Italian citizens who permanently work abroad and meet specific requirements, may be entitled to a deduction from taxable income of up to 90% from 6 to 13 years.
