JOB TITLE: Community Garden Volunteer Liaison
REPORTS TO: Garden Program Manager
SCHEDULE: Tuesday and Thursday (8:00am-4:30pm) [Winter], Tuesday and Thursday (9:00am-5:30pm) [Summer] LOCATION: Venice, CA
STATUS: Part-Time, 16 hours/week, Non-Exempt
SALARY RANGE: $21.00 - $22.00/hr
ABOUT US: Safe Place for Youth (SPY) is the leading service provider for youth experiencing or at-risk of homelessness in West Los Angeles. Founded in 2011, our agency offers trauma-informed, low barrier programs that support young people in exiting the streets and achieving stability so that they can thrive, not just survive.
ABOUT THE ROLE: Located in Venice, CA, the SPY Community Garden Volunteer Liaison provides members with a safe and engaging outdoor environment that highlights food justice, community-building, and healing. The Community Garden Liaison will enhance the Garden's community-facing programming through meaningful and strategic relationships with community members, volunteers, partners, and youth interns.
WHAT YOU'LL DO: Support the SPY Garden Program Manager with onsite supervision of youth interns and facilitation of garden-related curriculum.Plan and facilitate garden-related skill-based workshops for youth.Collaborate with the Volunteer and Advocacy Program Manager to coordinate volunteer engagement.Support community members/volunteers as they engage with the garden and youth interns.Plan and facilitate community-facing workshops and volunteer days.Conduct outreach and cultivate relationships with industry and community partners.Coordinate quarterly Farm-to-Table events for community members.Participate in staff meetings, trainings, supervision, and evaluation.Other duties as assigned to support the mission of the program and organization.WHAT YOU'LL NEED: Bachelor's Degree in any related field is preferred, but not required.1+ years of professional experience in farming/gardening is required.1+ years of experience working with transitional aged youth (18-25 yrs).A commitment to and passion for the mission of SPY is preferred.A willingness to work collaboratively as part of the SPY team.A strong interest in providing direct service to youth experiencing homelessness.Knowledge of trauma-informed care and housing first models.Must possess great communication and organizational skills.WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Changes in the environment, such as the office or outdoors.Physical effort/lifting, such as sedentary- up to 15-20 pounds at times.SPECIAL CONDITIONS: COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements: Effective August 9, 2021, all workers in homeless services organizations must provide proof of vaccination.
