terraXcube Short description of the position: We are seeking a new collaborator to join our team for the MULTITRAX-MR project "EFRE1059, EFRE-FESR 2021-2027 - CUP: D53C24002490009", which aims to develop a cutting-edge VR/AR/MR laboratory integrated with our climatic chambers. In this role, you will be responsible for selecting, assembling, and configuring the hardware systems required to create a seamless virtual environment. This includes integrating multiple VR/AR/MR headsets, a motion tracking system and advanced haptic devices to work together cohesively. You will be instrumental in building the foundation for the VR/AR/MR system, ensuring all components are compatible and function with low latency to deliver an immersive and interactive experience. You will create the VR/AR/MR scenarios outlined in the MULTITRAX-MR project, such as alpine search and rescue missions, multihazard emergencies, UAV pilot training, and an alpine digital twin.
Tasks: Design and develop the VR/AR/MR hardware infrastructure for integration with the climatic chamber. Select, configure, and implement VR/AR/MR headsets, sensors, controllers, and tracking systems suited for scientific and environmental simulations. Assist with testing and troubleshooting during the hardware integration phase. Support procurement and installation of necessary hardware components. Development of VR/AR/MR scenarios for the MULTITRAX-MR project. Requirements: In-depth knowledge of VR/AR/MR headsets and tracking systems. Experience in hardware infrastructure and custom solutions, networking and interfacing multiple hardware systems for real-time synchronization. Experience with Unity and/or Unreal Engine software. Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability. Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams. Desirable: Previous experience in VR/AR/MR integration with physical systems (such as simulations in environmental sciences or engineering labs). Familiarity with haptic feedback technologies and their real-world applications. Excellent communication skills in English, willingness to learn Italian and German.
