Job summary: As part of the Global Sourcing team, you will primarily assist the Commercial Director Africa with the sourcing of carbon-focused sustainable technologies (Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, household/community devices, land waste projects, methane projects, and new exciting frontier technologies like biochar and hydrogen fuels). Additionally, you will support business development and project sourcing-related activities in the African region. This exciting opportunity entails a combination of business development, project analysis, administration, and stakeholder/client engagement.
As a key member of the global sourcing team, the Senior Sourcing Specialist will undertake activities such as ensuring smooth and eloquent operationalization of global project sourcing flows, processes, document handling, database management, and coordination with different teams on various tasks and activities.
Main tasks and responsibilities: Originate through different strategies and sources for potential project partners dealing in clean technology for assessment for carbon projects for South Pole. Conduct initial due diligence for potential partners to ensure that they meet the highest possible standards needed for carbon projects. Design commercial and technical proposals for clients and present this to boards, aiming to secure clients for carbon projects. Maintain a healthy pipeline of a balanced technology portfolio of project partners from leads to signed clients. Propose new and innovative ways to attract new clients for South Pole. Manage and maintain databases (i.e., Salesforce), ensuring that information regarding project leads and opportunities are well recorded and updated. Ensure that sourcing flows and processes (including documentation and interaction with other teams) align with the company guidelines. Support global project sourcing operations activities for carbon credits and possibly other environmental market products offered by South Pole. Attend meetings/seminars/workshops/events that are strategic for sourcing team activities related to sustainable technologies. Build and maintain strategic relationships with partners who South Pole can leverage for future business opportunities. Research new technologies and be the lead source of material on new and frontier technologies in Africa. Present findings and recommendations on a regular basis to the management team for Africa and Global team. Requirements Essential skills and experience: Minimum 7 years of relevant experience working in business development or partnership development in any relevant sustainable technology space in Africa. Minimum 7 years of experience with deal origination, evaluation, and closing. University degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Business, or other relevant disciplines. Extensive experience in business development, client, and relationship management skills. Demonstrated skills in commercial transactions and business acumen with C-Suite clients in Africa. Knowledge of carbon credits and related international voluntary standards and article 6 frameworks in Africa. Strong presentation, writing, and communication skills. Attention to detail and comfortable working on administrative tasks. National or holder of a valid work visa for Kenya. Desired skills and experience: Ideally a Master's Degree or above. Good relationships and connections with international NGOs, international and national organizations, and relevant governments in Africa. Professional proficiency in one or more other African languages is a definite plus. Proficient in ERP systems and Google environment.
