Avionics System Engineer - Command And Monitoring

Dettagli della offerta

Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.
The Avionics System Engineer will be responsible for the design and justification of the command and monitoring system (CMS) that controls key events and monitors their successful execution for spacecraft operations. This system manages critical mission events such as service module separation, parachute deployment, etc.
Key Responsibilities:Design & Development:Lead the design and development of the spacecraft's command and monitoring system, responsible for activating mission-critical events in the correct order and timing. Architect robust avionics that can initiate and monitor events.Define system requirements, logic flows, timing constraints, and fault tolerance mechanisms for mission-critical events.Design safe and reliable command systems for the activation of pyrotechnical devices (e.g., igniters) during critical events.Ensure the system is highly reliable, fault-tolerant, and compliant with spacecraft safety standards.Verification and Validation:Develop and manage test plan execution for verifying the system's performance under various mission scenarios.Supervise simulations, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and end-to-end system testing to validate the CMS system's functionality and reliability.Collaborate with mission planning and operations teams to validate the CMS for nominal and contingency mission profiles.Analyze test results, identify issues, and implement corrective actions to ensure the system meets mission requirements.Regulatory Compliance and Documentation:Prepare detailed documentation, including system architecture diagrams, requirements, and validation plans.Ensure all design and operational protocols comply with aerospace safety regulations (e.g., NASA, ESA, or similar organizations).Maintain documentation for certification and flight-readiness reviews, supporting regulatory audits and reviews as necessary.Cross-functional Collaboration:Work closely with GNC, mechanical, software, and mission operations teams to ensure seamless integration of avionics with spacecraft hardware.Support the design and operation of pyrotechnic igniters and valve control systems for mission-critical events. Contribute to hazard analysis.Interface with external partners, such as space agencies (NASA, ESA, etc.), to ensure compatibility of the design with safety requirements.Qualifications:Education:Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.Experience:3+ years of experience in avionics systems design, specifically focused on mission-critical systems, or spacecraft avionics systems.Skills and Competencies:Experience with communication protocols such as MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet, SpaceWire, Serial or CAN buses.Proficiency with systems engineering tools and methodologies (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, DOORS, or equivalent).Knowledge of spacecraft pyrotechnic systems (including igniters) and valve control mechanisms.Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a focus on mission-critical systems.Strong communication skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Why you should join us! What makes us special here at The Exploration Company and why we think you will enjoy working here is:
We're Agile - we make decisions fast whilst keeping our goals and systems in mind. We're Open and Collaborative - we are transparent about risks and obstacles, so that we can cooperate to overcome them.We have a lot of Fun - we refuel our energy knowing we are democratising space.
