Major Duties: Incumbent performs initial, in-process, and final inspection of automotive vehicles such as passenger cars, forklifts, and vans requiring major and minor repairs.
Examines vehicles and their components on test stands and during road tests.
Diagnoses location and source of defects and determines type of repair or adjustments to be made.
Classifies vehicles and equipment as economically repairable or not economically repairable.
Completes inspection sheets stating type and extent of repair work required.
During final inspection, checks vehicle/component for proper function, safe operational condition, and quality of workmanship.
Certifies roadworthiness of vehicle and records results.
Completes and signs inspection sheet and similar documents.
He/she operates an Installation Movement Program (IMP) Privately Owned Vehicle (POV) Inspection Station.
Performs safety inspections of privately owned vehicles to determine roadworthiness, proper functioning of lights, brakes, steering, condition of tires and vehicle, etc.
Informs owner of deficiencies detected and explains repair work required.
Re-inspects vehicles that failed initial inspection after repairs and/or corrections have been made.
Operates a forklift to move, stack, unstack, load, and unload materials.
Note: Tour of duty is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 08.00 to 17.00, including a 1-hour uncompensated lunch break.
