Job Description - Associate Director, Strategic Sourcing - Category Management (240019) Overview
The Strategic Sourcing Category Manager for Pre-Clinical R&D is a member of the Global Strategic Sourcing Organization (GSS). This role is responsible for managing interaction with key stakeholders in Discovery Research and Early Development in order to establish best-in-class Sourcing Category Strategies, balancing short and long-term goals and objectives of stakeholders, Global Strategic Sourcing and Alnylam.
This role requires combining a high level of competency and experience in Strategic Sourcing with solid understanding of science and the drug discovery and development process and the business that supports it. The role requires in-depth knowledge of several sub-categories of spend linked to the development of RNAi therapeutics. The role requires the ability to collaborate and contribute with the R&D community at a subject-matter expert level at the intersection of science and business.
The Category Manager contributes to maintaining a balanced spend profile, consistent with Alnylam's strategic goals. The role requirements include first-hand accountability on Value Delivery to the organization in the form of cost savings and efficiency gains while maintaining long-term sustainability of business with vendors and managing an appropriate level of risk across a wide variety of the Laboratory Consumables, Laboratory Capital Equipment and Scientific Services sub-categories. This role has primary responsibility managing the identification, selection and implementation of complex business relationships in the realm of Drug Discovery and Development with external suppliers, including the development of business contracts in close collaboration with multiple functional areas.
The Category Manager contributes to initiatives and projects internal to GSS and Finance, and plays a role in the ongoing coaching and development of other members of the organization.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Business Partnering with the Pre-Clinical Research stakeholder community. Create and Develop Category Strategies and Plans for the Pre-Clinical Research categories, specifically Discovery Research and Early Development Laboratory Equipment and Consumables and Outsourced Research (GLP and non-GLP). Analyze global Category or market trends for assigned material/service purchases and communicate opportunities and recommending action plans based on market trends. Develop and direct annual cost savings initiatives that directly affect company financials and growth plans and generate progressive year over year cost reductions. Perform proposal analysis, including spend analytics and price analyses, Should-Cost modeling, Benchmarking, etc. Gain credibility and secure high levels of internal stakeholder's buy-in to category strategies and strategic initiatives. Proactively identify, report, and mitigate risks and establish and execute plans for Business Continuity. Review and approve requests for proposals for assigned materials/services. Develop cost targets for negotiations, negotiation strategy, and implement supply agreements. Lead supplier selection process, identification of alternative sources, supply base rationalization programs and other relevant strategies to optimize the supply base. Own or support Supplier Relationship Management: Development and measurement of KPI's, supplier audits, business reviews, improvement plans, new opportunities, innovation, awards, terminations, etc. including savings tracking and ongoing communication to management and stakeholders. Collaborate in the creation and implementation of Supplier Diversity Initiatives as it relates to Pre-Clinical Research. Provide education and coaching to junior staff that provide project delivery support, ensuring roles and responsibilities are clearly communicated and understood and project goals are met. Own resolution of supplier/product related issues on assigned categories including recommendation of changes to policies and procedures that affect the organization. Contribute to and/or lead Strategic Sourcing's and/or Finance Projects as needed. Qualifications
Bachelors Degree, ideally in Science, Business, Engineering or Supply Chain. Advanced Degree (MS/MBA) preferred. Sourcing, Procurement and/or Supply Chain professional certifications preferred (CPSM, CPIM, MCIPS or equivalent). 8+ years of direct experience in Sourcing, Procurement or Clinical Supply Chain. In-depth knowledge of the Pre-Clinical Sourcing Categories and Supply base, with strong emphasis in Outsourced Research. SME-level knowledge of the in-vivo Research and Bioanalytical Services supply market. Strong knowledge of other areas of outsourced research and other Categories or Sub-Categories for spend within Pharma and Biotech. Experience in working in a highly entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment. Highly skilled in technical Contract Negotiation, including the ability to collaborate directly with Legal and business stakeholders in the creation, editing and implementation of contracts. Demonstrated Project Management experience. Knowledge of RNAi modalities is a plus. Ability to develop and execute strategic plans relevant to the Pre-Clinical Research categories. Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership and influencing skills. Ability to interact with individuals at all levels internally and externally. About Alnylam
