Associate Director for Collection ManagementTo view the position details and/or apply to a position, click on the View Details link below the Job Title.Posting DetailsPosting Number: 20244231SPosition Title: Associate Director for Collection ManagementPosition Type: StaffLocation: Villanova, PARecruitment Type: Internal/External ApplicantsWork Schedule: full-time/12-monthsAvg Hours Week: Department: 243-Law School LibraryPosition Summary: The Associate Director for Collection Management reports to the Law Library Director and is responsible for supporting the students and faculty of the Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law through library administrative operations and coordination of services and collections designed to advance legal research, scholarship, instruction, and learning.Duties and Responsibilities:Administration:Serves as a member of Law Library's Administrative Team to develop policies and procedures and advise the DirectorSupervises the work of the Law Library Administrative Coordinator and the Access and Collection AssociateIn consultation with the Director of the Law Library, manages the Law Library budgetCoordinates and supervises Law Library acquisitions, including purchasing, payment, and accountingIn consultation with the Director of the Law Library, establishes and implements Law Library policies and procedures pertaining to acquisitions, cataloging, and government documentsProvides training and guidance to other staff members as neededParticipates in long- and short-term strategic planning, facilities management, space planning, and technology initiativesBuilds and supports Law Library relations with the Law School, the University, Falvey Library, library consortia, and professional organizationsParticipates in disaster response planningOversees and coordinates annual statistical reporting as requiredEnsures that Law Library services are delivered in an efficient, accurate, and professional mannerManages projects as assignedCataloging:Catalogs materials in all formats at a professional levelSearches, imports, and edits OCLC records for Lucidea Genie Plus library systemCreates or revises online bibliographic, inventory, and check-in recordsCreates original cataloging records when neededEvaluates and repairs complex serial cataloging problemsProcesses new materials with spine labels, barcodes and ink stampsAnswers cataloging questions and solves cataloging problemsCollection Maintenance:Supervises book collection maintenance activityOversees shelving and coordinates collection shifting and weeding projectsConducts binding on an as-needed basisIntegrated Services Library Management:Serves as backup to the Head of Digital Initiatives to manage and maintain the Lucidea Genie Plus library systemWorks closely with Falvey Library to manage and coordinate the integration between the Lucidea Genie Plus library system and the VuFind discovery layerLaw School Archives:Supervises the Law Library's collection of Law School archives, including overall planning of archive organizationsImplementation and maintenance of the Lucidea ArchivEra systemProcurement of new archive materials, particularly digital materialsCommunication with law school staff regarding archive materialsAccession processing of new archive materialsUpdating archive inventory documentsOverseeing digital scanning of archive materialsContributing materials to the Law Library's digital repositoryGovernment Archives:Manages Villanova Law Library's membership in the Government Documents Federal Depository Library ProgramEnsures compliance with Depository Library standardsReviews and revises the Government Documents selection listLibrary Service:Serves actively in Law Library and Law School committees as well as professional organizations at national, regional, section, and local levels in order to contribute to the profession, grow professionally, and stay abreast of current law library trendsCollaborates with Falvey Library to enhance Law Library services and collectionsMinimum Qualifications:M.L.I.S.
from an ALA accredited institution required; J.D.
from an ABA accredited institution required.
Will consider at least ten years' experience as a professional law librarian in an academic setting in lieu of a J.D.Advanced knowledge of legal publishing processes and publications.
Professional knowledge of, and training in, cataloging and database management.Knowledge of all aspects of law librarianship and law library management, professional development and law library trends.
Advanced knowledge of library cataloging rules.Advanced knowledge of integrated library systems.
Knowledge of electronic and print legal resources, including government documents.
Advanced statistical and accounting abilities.Five years' employment as a professional academic law librarian in an academic setting with at least one year of supervisory experience in technical services or collection management.Ability to navigate change management.
