Organizational SettingThe FAO Investment Centre (CFI) provides investment and finance solutions that lead to more efficient, sustainable, inclusive and resilient agrifood systems. Working in over 120 countries, the Centre provides a full suite of investment and finance support to FAO Members.
Reporting LinesThe Agribusiness Officer reports to the Chief, West and Central Africa Service (CFIE) of the FAO Investment Centre (CFI).
Technical FocusProvide analytical and technical support on agribusiness development, focusing on agricultural support services, rural markets, food distribution systems, and finance institutions aspects.
Key ResultsDelivering investment and finance support solutions through technical expertise/assistance and capacity development.
Key FunctionsParticipates in multidisciplinary teams to assist governments in identifying and preparing investment and finance support initiatives.Provides technical expertise for preparation of studies and strategies in food and agriculture.Supports development of inclusive and sustainable food systems.Formulates and delivers capacity development strategies.Prepares documents in accordance with requirements.Promotes international cooperation and collaboration.Participates in resource mobilization activities.Provides guidance to junior staff.Specific FunctionsAnalyzes selected agricultural sub-sectors and value chains.Assesses constraints and opportunities for public and private sector investment.Identifies and analyzes agricultural investment-related policy issues.Engages with private sector stakeholders.Develops public-private partnerships.CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWINGAdvanced university degree in agriculture, agribusiness, business administration, economics, or related field.Seven years of relevant experience in agribusiness and market development.Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language.Technical/Functional SkillsWork experience in multiple locations or areas, particularly in field positions.Knowledge of the context and partners of the specific subregion.Experience in agribusiness and enterprise development.Experience working with private sector investors.Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams.Experience with FAO's main development partners.FAO ValuesFAO staff are expected to adhere to FAO Values of Commitment, Respect, and Integrity.
