Job DescriptionThis hands-on AFM Analytical Scientist position will be responsible for developing and performing analytical testing to support Celanese divisions.
A member of a strong, collaborative team of scientists, this individual should have comprehensive experience in microscopy, especially atomic force microscopy (AFM).Responsibilities:Be responsible for characterizing formulated products using AFM, microscopy and spectroscopic techniques.Maintain a safe work environment and drive for continuous safety improvements.Develop and validate analytical methods for material characterization and innovation.Ensure good communications and timely prioritization to deliver quality results and meet project timeline expectations.Collaborate with global laboratories and cross-functional teams to support manufacturing, quality control, material qualification, new product development, global method alignment, etc.Troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance.Provide mentorship and training to the chemist team in instrument operation, data analysis and interpretation.Ensure good documentation on procedures, methods, calibration, maintenance, and other activities in the quality system.Promote company culture, equity, and core value initiatives.Qualifications:Master or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or related field.3+ years AFM and microscopy experience.Targeted experience in other analytical techniques such as NMR, FTIR, SEM/EDS, DSC, TGA, DMA, rheology, wet chemistry, GC, HPLC, is a plus.Experience with engineering polymers or plastics is a plus.Ability to proactively design methods to meet customer needs.Effective communication - both verbal and written.Strong understanding and commitment to safe lab practice and chemical handling.Ability to organize, keep detailed documentation/records, and achieve timely, accurate results.Ability to make minor repairs to lab equipment.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and be part of a team.Celanese Corporation is a global chemical leader in the production of differentiated chemistry solutions and specialty materials used in most major industries and consumer applications.
