The Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC) was founded in 1976 on the premise that art is a site for social justice. Our mission is to produce, preserve, and promote activist and socially relevant artwork; and ultimately, to foster artistic collaborations that empower communities who face marginalization. SPARC curates gallery exhibitions and programs that promote civic dialogue, in addition to creating and preserving murals that examine the most critical social and political issues of our time.
About this jobSPARC is seeking an experienced in-house Accountant to provide accounting oversight and to manage the complex accounting functions and financial planning of a non-profit organization. The Accountant will work closely with SPARC's Operations Director, CEO, CFO, and Finance Committee to oversee data collection, financial reporting and budgeting. They will report to the Operations Director to coordinate both internal and external audit processes, and forecast results and recommend operational adjustments as needed. Please note that this is NOT a remote position and the potential candidate must work on site at SPARC.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assist in the coordination of financial planning and budget management for the organization and on the project level
• Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions, including the chart of accounts, written policies and procedures, and adherence to financial calendar deadlines
• Ensure accuracy and timeliness of account records and processing of accounts payable, credit card expenditures, purchasing, petty cash, employee expenses, cash control, etc.
• Oversee accounts receivable activities to ensure the accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable components, including grant billings, cash receipts, etc.
• Support monthly, quarterly and year-end close processes
• Maintain and improve internal accounting policies and compliance
• Monitor project/program budgets and expenditures, including all reimbursements, fund requests and allowable costs, and generate monthly project financial reports
• Prepare critical financial data for the annual completion of audited financial statements and tax reporting.
This is a full-time position. Regular working hours are 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 pm
Qualifications• Bachelor degree in Accounting with 24 semester units in accounting from an accredited institution and/or 5 years of related work experience
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in nonprofit finance/accounting
• Detailed knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting and cost analysis principles, including US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP)
• Experience or knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, project accounting and purchasing processes
• Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial statements, reports and projections
• Experience presenting financial reports and forecasting to a Board of Directors
• Project management experience within a fast-paced, deadline driven environment strongly preferred
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently
• Proficient in Quickbooks Online, Bill.com accounting softwares, and Shopify
• Proficient in G Suite, Microsoft Office, and Mac OS operating systems
• Able to work in person and remotely, and occasionally on weekends
