Technicians are responsible for conducting the following tasks: Provide in-person customer service at the library service desk.
Conduct circulation transactions for patrons, and answer patron questions.
Search for materials in the library catalog for patrons and direct patrons to reference librarians for research assistance.
Process requests and materials for the Pickup Go holds service.
Answer incoming phone calls to the library service desk.
Shelve returned books and maintain book stacks.
Move book carts.
Lift and carry books.
Search for missing books.
Process interlibrary loan materials and update records in specialized library software and systems.
Scan pages in journals and books for electronic delivery.
Ship materials to other libraries via UPS software.
Open incoming packages and sort contents for processing.
Retrieve materials from local and remote locations.
Perform light clerical work, routine office tasks, and run errands as directed.
Participate and contribute to library projects as assigned by Access Services staff.
Requirements Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and reliability are all required.
Ability to perform repetitive tasks with great accuracy and consistency required.
Excellent interpersonal skills; able to handle difficult situations; customer service experience preferred.
Experience using hardware (laptops, pcs, printers, scanners, mobile devices), software (Windows, Mac, web browsers, Novasis, Webmail, Blackboard), and wireless network access preferred.
Familiarity with the library's catalog, journals, databases, and web search engines preferred.
Cross-training in multiple areas required.
Preference will be given to students who have availability on evenings and weekends.
Physical Demands Summary Ability to sit or stand for 2-4 hours at a time.
Position requires physical effort such as pushing a wheeled cart of books or other materials; some stooping and bending.
Moderate lifting on a routine basis; must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.
