WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR The Institute for the Earth System Predictions (IESP) is looking for bright and experienced researchers with substantial international leadership and scientific track record, motivated to work on the improvement of the CMCC climate modeling capacities. For these positions, we are encouraging applications by senior scientists to join our modeling teams.
The candidates will join an international and interdisciplinary team to contribute to the understanding of the climate system and of climate changes across multiple spatio-temporal scales in support of local and national response to emerging climate risks.

ROLE The successful applicants will be responsible for contributing to the advancement of the IESP climate modeling capacities and theoretical insight, and for fostering the transfer of scientific knowledge into enhanced predictive skills across multiple spatio-temporal scales and planning tools.
RESPONSIBILITIES Specific tasks include but are not limited to:
Improve multi-scale modeling and predictive tools also taking advantage of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning methods. Advance the understanding of the link between earth system processes and climate variability by combining basic and applied sciences with innovative modeling tools. Advance the understanding of the impact of climate change on extreme conditions (heat waves, floods, droughts, etc.). Attract new funding resources from multiple sources. Establish collaborations with other research institutions. Supervise younger scientists and PhD students. Write and contribute to scientific articles derived from the above work, and present those at scientific workshops and conferences. REQUIREMENTS Experience of at least 15 years on a diversity of dynamical, statistical and data-driven modeling approaches applied to the climate system. PhD in climate science, physics, geoscience or any related fields to climate dynamics and climate modeling. Fluency in English (Italian not needed), good presentation and writing skills. Willingness to travel to project meetings and to conferences. Ability to work in an interdisciplinary and diverse environment committed to high-quality research and to collaborate with the other two CMCC Institutes and the new Strategic Programs. DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally. The successful candidate will be based in Milan, Bologna or Lecce, Italy at CMCC offices within one of IESP Divisions depending on the candidate's expertise. Contract and gross salary will be based on qualification and working experience and competitive with major research centers in Europe. Welfare package, for minimum 12 months contract. Flexible working time as per internal policies. Support during the immigration process, if needed. PROTECTED CATEGORY Belonging to legally protected categories (ex L. 68/99) will constitute a preferential condition.
Some fiscal benefits could be applied for repatriated workers or foreign researchers/professors, having the requirements defined by Dlgs 147/2015 (for repatriates) or Dl 78/2010 (for foreigners).
