CMCC Position Soil and Water Systems Division Director Deadline: October 31 st , 2024 WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Our Institute for Climate Resilience (ICR) is building the next generation CMCC core models to advance the understanding of the intersection of climate, ecosystems, and society, to support operational (shorter term) to strategic (longer term) decisions, planning, and investments towards climate-resilient development.
We are looking for a leader who will guide the new Division SOWAS (Soil and Water Systems) to advance the knowledge of the coupled soil and water processes, also opening to new disciplines and themes at CMCC/ICR.
The investigated aspects will go deeper than the usual consideration of soil and water systems separately or of their interactions in the upper surface layers, to cover key dynamics occurring up to the lower part of the Earth's critical zone, whose understanding - especially in the context of combined climate and anthropic change - is still limited, fragmented or overlooked.
The Division will also foster the exploitation, analysis and integration of existing and/or still untapped data and methods from initiatives and partnerships dedicated to soil and water across spatio-temporal scales, from measurements to modeling, to feed the formulation and development of further physically based, AI, and hybrid approaches.
The Division will cooperate with the other ICR Divisions to complement, benefit of and/or feed their already consolidated activities, enabling ICR to successfully integrate its research areas with CMCC's strategic programs and other Institutes.
