CMCC Position Software Engineer Deadline: September 26th, 2024 WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR The Division of Regional Ocean Forecasting Systems (ROFS) at the Institute for Earth System Predictions (IESP) is seeking a talented Software Engineer.

ROLE The Software Engineer is responsible for the porting/recoding/re-engineering/development of the operational procedures in the frame of the ocean forecasting systems.
He/She will also support their monitoring and the management of the internal and external data repository.
RESPONSIBILITIES The Software Engineer will support the ROFS Division activities, with: Implementation, maintenance, porting, monitoring, and recovery of all the operational chains (including operational validation and visualization systems).
Tracking failures of operational chains as well as their solution and type of intervention by implementing automatic recovery procedures.
Ensure consistency checks of operational input and output data.
REQUIREMENTS We are looking for a motivated person with the following requirements: Master's degree in computer science or engineering; Very good knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems and command line interface; Very good knowledge of HPC architecture and job schedulers (i.e., IBM Spectrum LSF); Good knowledge of workflow management platforms; Good knowledge of programming languages (i.e., Python and Bash scripting); Good background in managing/manipulating/visualization of metocean data (i.e., NetCDF, CF metadata convention, GRIB, csv) and associated tools (NCO, CDO libraries); Good knowledge of version control systems (i.e., git); Background in containerization tools (Docker, Singularity); Very good knowledge of the English language.
DURATION, COMPENSATION BENEFITS The Software Engineer will be based in Lecce CMCC office; the appointment period will be initially of 24 months starting from November 2024, renewable pending a positive evaluation, with a gross annual salary range based on qualification and working experience and competitive with major research centers in Europe; Welfare package; Flexible working time as per internal policies; Support during the immigration process, if needed.
PROTECTED CATEGORY Belonging to legally protected categories (ex L. 68/99) will constitute a preferential condition.
