The Attitude and Orbital Control System (AOCS) Engineer is responsible for the design, development, qualification, and testing of ADCS and propulsion suites for small satellites. The position is part of the System Engineering team.
AOCS Engineer activities include, but are not limited to:
Propulsion subsystem technical lead throughout all mission phases, from initial concept to in-flight operations. Perform engineering calculations, analysis, modelling, and simulations to calculate system performance and operations. Perform technical trade-off, sizing, and architecture selection of PS and ADCS hardware. Drive the design/architecture and selection of components. Definition and management of technical requirements and specifications. Supporting the definition of mission and platform conops. Supporting typical system engineering activities in each phase of the missions. Management of system budgets with particular focus on deltaV, momentum, and pointing budgets. Day-to-day collaboration and coordination with the project team, interfaces definition and maintenance with respect to multidisciplinary areas. Monitoring, control, and review of external partners' work and design – lead technical meeting. Generation of the system engineering plan, design report, development, and verification plan. Produce technical documentation for reviews with the customers, subcontractors, and suppliers. Support AIT, AIV, acceptance, and qualification activities. Support for risk assessment and FMEA. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS Master's degree in Aerospace/Space Engineering. 2+ years of work experience in similar roles. High flexibility and team-working capability. Hands-on and proactive approach, willing to collaborate wherever needed. Ability to work with tight schedules. Ability to run analysis and write technical reports. Very good knowledge of Italian and English languages. REQUIRED EXPERIENCES & SKILLS Knowledge of smallsats propulsion system (chemical, cold gas, and electrical). Knowledge of smallsats AOCS suite. Knowledge of spacecraft attitude dynamics. Basic knowledge of bi-phase liquid thermodynamic. Demonstrate a good understanding of AOCS and propulsion architecture and design. Experience with momentum management strategies. Experience in management of industrial activities including reviews. Interface (electrical/logical) between the ADCS and propulsion system. Practical experience running test campaigns (functional, TVAC, vibration, leak, and proof etc.). Familiar with ECSS standard and tailoring (ECSS-E-ST-35C, ECSS-E-ST-60-10C, ECSS-E-ST-60-30C, ECSS-E-ST-10C). ADDITIONAL ASSETS Experience in spacecraft real-time operation/execution of AOCS maneuvers. Experience in commissioning of propulsion system and ADCS. Knowledge of orbital dynamics and smallsats navigation. Experience of GNC algorithm design e.g. navigation filters, guidance strategies, and/or controllers. Advanced knowledge of Matlab, Simulink, Python, and C/C++. Experience in writing technical proposal for future business opportunity.
